Friends of Wisam - Call for Action

El  sábado 5 de Mayo del 2014 el estudiante de 16 años, Wisam Torbay fue herido de bala por grupos paramilitares, los llamados “colectivos de paz”,  quienes atacaron a los jóvenes que realizaban una protesta pacífica frente a la Universidad Fermín Toro de Barquisimeto, estado Lara.
 
Torbay fue impactado por una bala en el cuello que casi le quita la vida; durante la operación tuvo 4 paros cardíacos y aunque se salvó,  parte de su cuerpo quedó paralizado. La terapia le han permitido mover de la cintura para arriba, pero aún sigue poniendo de su esfuerzo en la rehabilitación para volver a mover todo su cuerpo y Dios mediante, volver a caminar.

Wisam y su familia se vieron forzados a salir de Venezuela por razones medicas y gracias a  la ayuda de un grupo de compatriotas venezolanos en el extranjero y a el programa "Ayuda Humanitaria para Venezuela", con sede en Miami, Fl, pudo llegar junto a su familia a la ciudad de Filadelfia, PA, en donde recibe terapia y tratamiento medico en el Hospital Shriners de Niños.

Hoy, Wisam Torbay sueña con ser médico para poder salvar vidas. “No me tengan lástima, no me arrepiento de nada, y si pudiese caminar y salir otra vez a protestar lo haria y hasta dar la vida por mi país”, dijo Torbay.

Ayudemos a Wisam y a su familia en esta nueva etapa,  como sabemos muchos de nosotros no es facil llegar a un pais sin nada, solo unas maletas llenas de ropa y esperanzas. El no conocer a nadie, dejar atras amigos, familiares y costumbres no es facil.

Les pido por favor seamos solidarios con Wisam y su familia, el desde aca seguira con su rehabilitación y tratamiento medico y con su lucha, la lucha de miles de jovenes venezolanos y de un pueblo que quieren un cambio y una verdadera democracia.

On Saturday, May 5th, 2014, 16 years old student Wisam Torbay, was shot by paramilitary pro-goverment group, aka ‘colectivos de la paz". This armed group  attacked a group of students whom were holding a peaceful protest at the University Fermín Toro of Barquisimeto, Lara state.
 
Torbay was hit by a bullet in the neck that nearly took his life, he was rushed to the closest hospital by a by-stander, during the surgery he had four heart attacks and although he was able to survive part of his body was paralyzed. Therapy has allowed him to move from the waist up, he still undergoing rehabilitation therapies to be able to move his body and walk again.
 
Wisam and his family were forced to leave Venezuela for medical reasons and thanks to the help of group “Ayuda Humanitaria para Venezuela’, based in Miami, FL, he was able to travel to Philadelphia, PA, where he has been receiving rehab therapy and medical treatment at the Shriners Hospital for Children.

 Today, Wisam Torbay dreams of becoming a doctor to save lives. "Do not feel sorry for me, I do not regret anything of what I have done, and if I could walk and I would go out again to protest and I would give my life for my country," Torbay said.

 Let's help Wisam and his family in this new phase of their life, as many of us know it is not easy to arrive in a country with nothing, just a few suitcases full of clothes and hope. Coming to a country without knowing anyone; leaving behind friends, family and customs is not easy.

We ask you please stand in solidarity with Wisam and his family and collaborate on this campaign as he continues with his recovery and his fightm that is also the fight of thousands of Venezuelans students and the big majority in the country seeking for a change and true democracy.
