Vetville for Homeless Vets

Donation protected
I'm a 100% disabled Female Army Veteran. I live in Anchorage, Alaska. I have been working with homeless veterans here for 4 years, and took a homeless vet (Charles F.Burt “Pop”) into our home. He passed November 11, 2017 (Veterans Day) from Sepsis. I found it difficult to continue without him, but knew he wanted me to continue to help homeless veterans because he believed I could make a difference. This project has been a dream & passion for me as I have seen my fellow veterans suffering without hope. They’ve closed the shelters. The City has criminalized homeless camps, now fining them $100 a day & 10 days to move camp with no place to go. The City has made 911 calls to the old shelter areas Non-Priority. People are attacking them with Chemicals. They are often victims of violence. These veterans have no rights & no help. They want a better life. I need to honor my Oath that “No man is left behind”. I will never give up on my Brethren. There is another Foundation in Anchorage that is trying to get a Vet Village built on Base. He has tried unsuccessfully since 2016 & is attempting again this year to secure Federal or State land. There are several issues that haven’t been addressed. I have decided to decline assisting with his idea & start my own project. In the near future we hope to work with them. In my opinion my route will produce results more quickly. We are going to BUY a piece of land. We’re going to have the Vets help build their cabins, the garden so they can grow their own food, & continue to work a few hours each week to keep Vetville a safe, community for homeless veterans. By helping build & maintain the community it will also rebuild their self esteem & self worth. We want them to be able to get on their feet. They still have hope & we need to give them a safe & stable place to call home with #NOSTIGMAS to heal. If they have addiction issues, it will be MANDATORY they stay drug & alcohol free or remain in a treatment program provided by VA to live in Vetville. I’ve already gotten a list of companies who would donate construction materials, & certified skilled trades to do wiring, plumbing, etc. The Government has failed these Heroes all across our Nation. WE need to act to save & regain lives that have been forgotten. These vets unconditionally gave & fought for our Great Nation & Freedom. We owe it to them to ensure that they are appreciated, safe & in a home. WE CAN DO THIS AMERICA! Let’s build Vetvilles across America! ❤️
