A documentary on four decades of American Farm Experiment and its implications for the largest farmer-led protest in recent history taking place in India.
Read about our inquiry in the Times of India , or view an excerpt of the documentary .
The opening up of Indian Agriculture and "free market" policies are supposed to make Indian agriculture more efficient and bring prosperity to farmers. But will it? The protesting farmers don't believe so. Are they mistaken? Are they misguided?
In the last four decades or so, experiments and policies similar to the new Indian farm laws were tried in America. What can we learn from that?
Our 6500-mile journey through the heartland of America chronicles first-hand experience of these experiments and policies specifically on small farms as well as the larger farming landscape. Our findings are of immense relevance to understanding what awaits Indian farmers if the current Indian farm laws run their course.
By threading together stories of the farmers' intimate and dire quests for survival, equity, and justice, Deja Vu attempts to shed light on the sources and solutions of agricultural crises. And in the process, it serves as an opportunity for education, as well as a seed for open, healthy and diverse discussion on existential issues of food security, human dignity, and agricultural sustainability.
So far, all expenses related to the project have been borne by the team. As a project of this magnitude requires a lot of financial backing, we welcome any donations that can help us sustain our efforts over the coming months.
