Urgent Funeral Expenses For My Mother in Late-Stage Dementia

My mom is truly an incredible woman. She fled Vietnam as one of the "boat people," and in 1980, she brought me to Canada, seeking a better life for us. Her strength, resilience, and love have shaped everything I am today. She has always put me first, sacrificing so much to give me the life I have. Now, it’s my turn to honour her in the best way I can. She deserves nothing less than a proper burial that reflects the love and strength she showed throughout her life.

Why I’m Asking for Your Help

Being my mom’s caregiver full-time has been the greatest responsibility of my life, but it’ has come with major financial challenges. I’ve used up my savings and resources to ensure she’s comfortable and cared for at home 24/7 since her diagnosis with late-stage Dementia a year and a half ago. Government support, as you know, is limited, and I’ve chosen to care for her myself, rather than placing her in a home with strangers whom she cannot communicate with. There are only 2 of us left, my mother and I in our family.

Heartbreakingly she is soon not going to be with me any longer and the experts have asked me to begin funeral planning; the costs of fulfilling her final wish are significant. We have an estimate of $75,000 CAD for the total burial, which has been broken down in the following:.

1.Side-by-side crypt: 60000 + GST. (City of Calgary estimate)

2. Crypt Entombment Fee: 3880.62 + GST. (City of Calgary estimate)

3. Engraving: 4737.36 + GST.(City of Calgary estimate)

4. Caskets: 6000 + GST, where she can rest in peace. (Funeral Homes estimate)
