Gilroy Early College Academy Academic Decathlon Team needs your support!
As a small, public, dual enrollment high school located at Gavilan College in Gilroy, GECA is high achieving and unique. The approximate 238 students engage in an academically rigorous curriculum throughout their four years through honors, advanced placement, and college classes. GECA functions with a lower school budget, and as such students lack varsity sports and forgo many school wide activities for the advantage of a two year college education by their high school graduations.
Academic Decathlon, abbreviated AcaDec, is a national competition consisting of ten academic competitions including speech, essay, interview and subject tests. This year's curriculum revolves around the theme of WWI . For the 2013-2014 year, Gilroy Early College Academy's Academic Decathlon team succeeded at the regional competition, outperforming previous years. The GECA team will represent Santa Clara County at the California state competition for the second consecutive year on March 20-23 in Sacramento.
The Academic Decathlon is a difficult, competitive, educational, and rewarding experience. In order for the GECA AcaDec team to show their knowledge about the Treaty of Versailles, Modern Art, and Hemingway, they need approximately $6,000 to cover all lodging, transportation, food, and registration costs. The Santa Clara County GECA decathletes are looking to the community for support through monetary donations of any value. The team appreciates all contributions, even simply words of encouragement.
Sincere thanks,
