Hi, my name is Gator Kevin, my original name was Gates, and I am a 1-year-old pittie mix. I have been stuck in a cage most of my life until my life changed when I went into the veterinary hospital last week. My owner bought me for dog fighting. I got into a fight with this other dog and my ear got hurt, it was barely hanging on. My owner didn’t take me to the veterinarian right away, he waited after it happened to take me to the vet, by that time he took me, my ear had already gotten severely infected. Since my ear was torn for over a week and was so infected, I ended up having a pretty high fever and because of that my owner had requested to euthanize me. My owner did not want to help me. My doctor didn’t agree with the decision to euthanize, so she got my owner to surrender me. After I was surrendered, my doctor performed an ear surgery to get the infected part of my ear off. After my ear surgery my doctor and her assistants noticed I was walking weird. They took x-rays of my hind legs and noticed something wasn’t right. I have to go back and get sedated x-rays because I’m too wiggly to get good pictures. My doctor wants to send the x-rays to a radiologist to confirm what she saw but we think I have an ACL tear and will need an additional surgery.
I am with a nice and loving family right now. They say I’m being fostered, but I am having fun playing with the other dogs, trying to heal from my ear surgery, learn new manners and skills. My foster parents are trying to raise money for my ACL tear surgery so that I can live the rest of my full life without pain.
All donated money will go to my medical expenses and whatever is left over we will donate to the local animal shelter to help other pets in my similar condition.
