DONATE TO HELP AMERICAN RUNNER GERRY LINDGREN
Donation protected
Gerry Lindgren gave his all, training harder than any American runner ever had, winning many titles and races in high school, college and beyond. He represented the USA in the 1964 Olympics at age 18 in the 10,000m.
Now it’s possible for us fans and supporters to show our appreciation for his hard work and sacrifice. Your donations will help him pay for recent medical bills (strokes in December 2023), will help him retire from his job at age 77 as a janitor at the University of Hawaii, and will help him pay off his mortgage. The top 15 donors on April 15 2024 will receive signed and framed photos from Gerry.
If you appreciate his running history, talent and sacrifice as much as we do, share some of your wealth and love with this American running icon and donate to this gofundme page so that he can finally retire without financial stress.
Do you remember when he beat the Russians at age 18 at the L.A. Coliseum by sprinting at the 4-mile mark in the 10,000m in front of 40,000 track fans? He made the 1964 Olympic team in the 10,000m, also at age 18, just out of high school! Gerry would go on 88 mile runs, do “6 to 8 times 880y in 1:56-58” in workouts. His 8:40 2-mile in high school against Ron Clarke lasted 40 years. During college at Washington State Gerry won 11 track and cross country NCAA titles in 3 years. He set American Records and a World Record (in the 6-mile with Billy Mills).
Gerry feels that the purpose of his running was to allow him to serve as a role model for others. He helped create the running boom of the 1970’s. He was motivated to run to bring out the best in the competitors around him. He was famous for going out fast (61 first 440 in college 2-miles) and for sprinting in the middle of long races.
Gerry’s HS coach Tracy Walters writes “Into this environment (of the early ‘60’s) came a 5’6”, 118 pound squeaky voiced high school runner who had a great deal of pride and faith in his country and possessed a burning desire to elevae distance running in whatever way he could… Having just graduated from high school, he was able to beat most of the best runners in the world. He stood alone and fought for justice in the conflict between the NCAA and AAU and showed great courage in his desire for fairness”.
Running fans of Gerry, here’s your chance to show Gerry some love in his final years. Donate what you can today. All donated funds go directly into Gerry’s bank account in Hawaii.
While this fundraiser continues all year, the top 15 donors on May 1, 2024 will get signed copies of a photo of Gerry mailed to them. You can make multiple donations and we’ll add them up. Kevin Young’s initial $1000 donation won’t count as one of the top 15 donors. We hope to get Gerry’s book re-published in the near future.

WHY i want $150,000.
1.Home mortgage payoff. I'm 77, going on 78. I still owe about $100,000 on this small condominium. As i grow older, it becomes more difficult to continue a 6am to 2:30pm job. Without this work, i would quickly default on my mortgage payment and loose my place to live. SOOOOOOOO many people homeless now just because of this. Your money would assure a continued home.
2. As many of you know, i am studying longevity. I find that STRESS kills over a lifetime. In the late 60s and early 70s I was honored to be a part of a RUNNING REVOLUTION that has spread worldwide. This physical exercise aleviates stress. The average lifetime of people in America has risen from 57 years in 1964, the year i graduated high school, to over 78 years today. Your funding will continue my study in longevity with the goal of 360 years of life. A pipedream today, but a distinct possibility soon. I have always believed one should shoot for the stars. Your support would help fund this attempt to create a LONGEVITY REVOLUTION.
