Ginger's Medical Mission Trip
Donation protected
My name is Ginger Hamelin, and I am a Nurse Anesthetist specializing in pediatric anesthesia. I have been presented with the opportunity to go on a medical mission trip to Honduras with a pediatric surgeon. In these third world countries, infants are often born with intestinal abnormalities requiring immediate surgery, leaving them with a colostomy. In countries with advanced specialty medical care, these colostomies are reversed after a short while, leaving these children with normal intestinal anatomy. However, in many third world countries, these children are left with colostomies their entire lives because there is no one to reverse them. This is what we will be doing at Loma de la Luz hospital in Honduras, leaving these children to live a more normal healthy life. These children have so many hardships to live with, and we will be leaving them with one less! It is a one week trip In April and hopefully will be a yearly event. The trip is organized through World Medical Mission, the medical arm of Samaritan's Purse, a Christian organization providing relief around the world, ranging from medical missions to disaster relief. The organization provides assistance with logistics (housing, transportation, etc.) but the trip is self-funded. Any donation will be appreciated to assist in my funding of this trip. I cannot express how excited I am to participate in this medical mission!
