Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Academy Major Fire
Donation protected
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., August 5, 2024 – Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Academy experienced a multi-alarm fire at our 525 63rd Street facility on Monday, July 29, 2024, shortly after 6:00 a.m. While no injuries occurred, the damage is significant. Our school is currently unusable just three weeks before the start of the academic year, and our church facility remains closed until further notice.
We are deeply grateful to the police and fire departments from Downers Grove, Westmont, and Darien for their swift and effective response. Their efforts were crucial in managing the situation and minimizing further damage. We also thank the local news services for their thorough coverage, which has been essential in keeping the community informed and connected.
Thanks to the widespread support from our Christian brothers and sisters and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we have secured an alternate location to continue operating our Academy. Additionally, while we are exploring options for worship space with local churches and community organizations, we will hold Sunday services at 9 a.m. in our parking lot, weather permitting.
To aid in our recovery, we are accepting donations to cover the costs associated with the fire. Your support is vital to our rebuilding efforts. We will post regular updates on our progress.
For questions or to offer assistance, please contact Joe Abegg, Ministry Support.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Academy remains dedicated to our mission: "Grow in the Word, and Go with the Word." We believe our faith transcends physical structures and remains with us in our hearts.
We appreciate your generosity and support during this challenging time.
