Ann-marie Gorman Memorial Project
The P.S. 89 community is devastated by the news that Ann-marie Gorman passed away. There are no words that can memorialize her impact as an educator, mentor, and friend. We have all been thinking about how we can find a way to preserve her memory and passion for teaching, both here at P.S. 89 and out in the world.
We have discovered an amazing opportunity to make a meaningful donation of Ann-marie's home library of student materials. One of our colleagues here at P.S. 89 has a family friend who is devoted to education and missionary work in Haiti. This friend, Sister Jackie, is a nun with RJM (Religious of Jesus and Mary), and she oversees the education of the children who attend her Haitian school.
RJM is in desperate need for English books and educational materials for their children. As many know, Ann-marie was a passionate reader and lover of books, but she also had a strong connection to third-world nations and their citizens who struggle with poverty. We feel that donating her personal student book collection to these children and their teachers would not only honor her committment to education and reading, but also extend her generosity further into the world. We hope her legacy can live on by instilling a love of reading in the many children who will pass through the doors of RJM in years to come.
This is where we need your support. Sister Jackie and RJM will happily accept our donation and will honor Ann-marie within their school, but we need to arrange cargo shipment of the materials to them.
We are also hoping that this GoFundMe campaign can also raise funds to be contributed towards a memorial for Ann-marie within the halls of P.S. 89. We have several ideas for a meaningful memorial, but are still open to any suggestions others might have.
Please give generously and share with family and friends so we can create this living legacy for children who could use a bit of Ann-marie's eternal goodwill. If you do not wish to donate via the Internet, please see Jenn (Manzo) Ehrlich, Mel Gezlev, Mary Anne Walter, Karol Valdez, or Tracy Feeney to make other donation arrangements.
Thank you so much in advance. Hopefully we can find some comfort and closure in our loss by sending some of Ann-marie's love and committment across the Caribbean.
