Dental Aid Nepal

I am a 4th year dental student and for part of my summer I will be volunteering in rural communities of Nepal providing dental aid.

In Nepal,  access to dental clinics are scarce and dental care visits and medicines are almost non-existent. The existing clinics (if available in the nearest urban area) are often underfunded and understaffed meaning that many mountainous communities have never seen a dentist. 

For this reason, I will be travelling with a group of dental students with a non profit organisation called 'Around Good People'. We will be providing immediate dental care and preventative treatments and education through mobile medical clinics. Treatments provided will include oral hygiene instruction, cleanings, fillings, root canals and extractions along with medications as required. All treatments will be under the supervision of qualified dentists and will be provided to the rural villagers free of charge.

Funds raised will go towards training of community volunteers, interpreters, medicines, dental supplies (including toothbrushes and toothpastes) and any dental costs incurred in providing treatment. I will be covering any additional personal costs incurred on the trip.
