Home Run Derby Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
My name is Nick Chiocco and I am from Mansfield, Massachusetts. I recently graduated from Stonehill College where I was a student-athlete on the Football team. I am also an alumnus of Mansfield High School, Class of 2012.
The past three years, I have held a Home Run Derby to support a charity foundation that I believe is in need. The first year of my Home Run Derby fundraiser, all of the proceeds went to the One Fund Boston for Marathon Victims. This resulted in the raising of over $2,000. There were 10 businesses that sponsored the event, and 25 participants. Because of the success, I decided to do the Home Run Derby again!
In my second year of the fundraiser, all of the proceeds went to the Hearts For Hope Foundation in memory of Fallon Finegan.
For those not familiar with the Hearts for Hope Foundation, it is a non-profit organization started in 2009 with the mission to provide financial aid to families battling Cystic Fibrosis (CF). To date, the foundation has raised over $700,000 and has been instrumental to many families in alleviating the financial burden that comes with having a CF patient to care for. For more information their website is: http://hearts4hopefoundation.org
In 2010, the town of Mansfield lost a friend, classmate, and amazing person in Fallon Finegan to Cystic Fibrosis. Since that day, many of her friends and classmates, including myself, have worn a purple bracelet on our wrists that has her name on it with hearts on either side, and even have decals on our cars that have her initials and her number, FF 33, and the Cystic Fibrosis ribbon on it to show our remembrance and support.
After trying to figure out what for the do the Home Run Derby Fundraiser for the 2nd year, when the idea came up, it only felt right to support the Hearts For Hope Foundation in honor of Fallon.
The event ended up raising over $2,500! This year, there were 25+ sponsors and 50 participants in the event.
Last year, the event was once again for the Hearts for Hope Foundation in memory of Fallon Finegan. This time, the derby raised more than the first two years combined, over $5,000 in total! There were 35+ sponsors of the event and 55 participants that were involved.
In my fourth and possibly final year, I will be holding the Home Run Derby once again for the Hearts For Hope Foundation in memory of Fallon Finegan. This year, I hope to reach a goal of at least $7,500 raised!!
This year's Home Run Derby will be happening on Sunday, August 7th, 2016 at 12:00 on the Otis Street Baseball Fields.
The Home Run Derby will run like a usual Home Run Derby. You will hit until you reach 10 "Outs", with the 9th ball being a Gold Ball. If a Home Run is hit with a Gold Ball, a specific amount of money is made from a sponsor that has pledged to donate per each Gold Ball Home Run hit. There will only be 1 round and there will be prizes for the top Home Run hitters, so make sure the at-bat counts!!!
This year for $20, you are entered into the Home Run Derby lineup and get your at-bat, while also receiving a t-shirt, or for $10, you are simply entered into the Home Run Derby lineup. This entry fee can be paid in either cash or check and will be paid when you arrive at the event and check in! If it is a check, please make it out to the Hearts For Hope Foundation.
Regarding pitching, it would be a huge help if people could volunteer to pitch. Please contact me and let me know if you are able to so I can put your name down!
There will also be raffles, food, & drinks so make sure to bring some extra money!
If you are able to attend the event or there are any questions at all, please feel free to contact me via text or phone call (774-266-6335), message me on Facebook, DM me on Twitter, or email me ([email redacted])!
All are welcome to attend the event and are encouraged to participate!
Hope to hear from everyone soon!!
