Hotchkiss K8 Middle School DI Team

The Hotchkiss K8 Middle School Destination Imagination team placed 3rd in the Colorado State Tournament and recieved an invitation to the GLOBAL tournament in Knoxville, TN on May 20-23.  This is the first Middle School DI team from HK8 to ever qualify for Globals.  This is an international tournament with teams from all over the US and 18 other countries. 

The team is made up of three 6th grade students and two 8th grade students.  It is a great oppertunity for these kids from this community to represent the North Fork Valley and Western Colorado at a Global Tournament. 

The Tournament entry cost $5000 to enter and we antipate $3000 in travel to Knoxville. 

Destination Imagination is a program that focuses on creativity, problem solving, and team work by having the team members find a solution to selected challenges.  This team selected the structure challenge where they had to build the lightest structure possible from balsa wood, glue, tape, and playing cards that would hold a 10 pound weight.  They then had to figure out a removal device that would remove weight from the structure without breaking it.  They also had to tell a story about how something is transformed and revealed to be something completly different, create a prop or set piece that transforms as parts or it are removed during the presentation, and create and present two Team Choice Elements that show off the team's interests, skills, areas of strenghth, and talents.  All in 8 minutes or less.

This team has recieved 2 awards for their removal device and placed 3rd at state.  Please help send the team to Knoxville, TN.
