Aloha! As a member of our school's Competition Team, we are excited to compete in Florida's 19th Annual Hula Competition, Hōʻike Hawaii, in Orlando, FL on July 23-24, 2016.
This Go Fund Me effort is in support of 30 dancers who are engaging in personal fundraising to go on this trip for this trip. All are members of Hālau Nohona Hawaiʻi, which refers to all things anchored in Hawaiian; living the Hawaiian way. We are a Hawaiian cultural school located in Silver Spring, MD. The goal of the school is to enrich and make a positive impact on our communities by sharing the spirit of aloha. Your contribution does not go to our school's overall finances, but directly supports the dancers themselves as they share their culture in this competition.
The two-day hula competition focuses on the unique cultural dance, costume and music styles of the various islands, such as Hawai’i, Tahiti, Samoa and New Zealand. Participants from diverse cultures will be showcasing their knowledge and love for the Polynesian lifestyle and come from all corners of North America and Hawai’i to compete and perform what they have learned. We have auditioned and put together a team of 30 of our best dancers and musicians to compete on this national stage, and we need your help.
We are asking you for your support of these 30 specific dancers to help fund the travel and competition fees for this unique opportunity. While we are so proud of how we share our culture throughout the national capitol region, this competition is special to us for several reasons. Not only will we continue to perpetuate the traditional culture of the Hawaiian people but we will be augmenting a living knowledge of Hawaiian arts with performances of the highest quality and authenticity. We are humbled to perform in front of thousands of people in the audience learning about the history and culture of Hawai’i .
Your contribution and support will mean so much to us and especially to the 30 dancers and musicians that will directly be affected by your aloha. We are humbled by your consideration and thank you for your support!
