Junior Trip to Washington DC
Donation protected
Hello friends! I teach at HSTAT, a Title 1 school in Brooklyn, NY. This year, our Junior class representatives are planning a trip to Washington DC to visit the Museum of African-American Culture and History.
This trip is important to our students in a lot of ways. Many of our students are African-American, or members of other minority groups. As conversations about race, immigration, and #blacklivesmatter have come to the forefront of the political climate, our students have worked hard to find their own voices, to support one another, and to create a community in which they can safely discuss their experiences and feel empowered to create change.
I'm so proud of these students! They came up with the idea for this trip on their own, articulated why it was important and meaningful to them, and created a plan for it themselves.
The goal is to take 40 students to see the museum. Those students have been fundraising tirelessly, but it's tough! Being a Title 1 school means that more than half our students are below the poverty line - that means they have limited money to spend at fundraisers. In order to get a bus, hotel, and (hopefully!) meals for our students, we need to raise over $3000.
Anything you can donate to our students will be a huge help. Thank you so much for supporting them as they find ways to grow, learn, and become active participants in the world!
