Sometimes in life, really positive events can be happening at the same time as really unfortunate ones. This is the case with my friend Adam.
A few months ago Adam was offered an incredible job opportunity in Colorado, living in a beautiful part of the state and making enough money to finally stop living paycheck to paycheck. This was a big deal for him having worked 10 years in the bar industry and never really building a nest egg. So he put in his notice at his long time employer at El Taco, sold the few items he could get some money for and used his last paycheck to pay for the roadtrip to Colorado.
Things were going great! Adam got a second part time job so he could really start saving some money. He was living in a Colorado mountain town and meeting some new friends. And then suddenly the phone rang. It was Adam's brother, he told him that their mom, Judy, was in ICU and he needed to come home right away.
Judy had gone to the Doc-in-a-box near her house complaining of stomach pains. It was clear to the doctor her condition was serious, so she went to the emergency room. They discovered she had a large cancerous tumor in her colon and they needed to operate. After removing the tumor from her colon, they discovered the cancer had already spread to her liver and lungs. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
Having not had any indication of this terminal illness prior to the sudden onset of stomach pains that day, this has the whole family in shock and a lack of resources to face the struggle ahead. Because Adam had to fly home so soon after getting to Colorado he lost the second job. However, the employer that offered him the initial job is being compassionate with his situation. So his dreams of a stable life in Colorado have not been shattered.
The money raised through this campaign will help pay for travel expenses for Adam and his brother and home medical care for Judy. They do not have any extended family that they can rely upon to check in on their mom. That's what his friends are for. So even if your are not in a position to donate money. Offering to swing by and check on Judy and help her as needed would be greatly appreciated. The funds raised by this campaign could help Adam maintain his life in Colorado that he worked so hard to get, but still allow him to care for his mother.
Those of you who know Adam well, know that he is not one to ask for help. He has always been extremely independent and self-reliant. In fact, he's the guy you call when you need someone to rely on! But I can certainly speak for Adam when I say that he and his brother are extremely grateful for any assistance you are able to offer to help them through this extremely difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please keep Judy in your prayers.
