"Help Support Our Therapeutic Riding Center"
My name is Mary Kingslien and I am the Executive Director at Healing Touch Therapeutic Riding Center, a non profit 501c3 organization, working with children and adults with special needs.
With the help of all of our friends, family and community we have been able to purchase our forever home. Now the fun has began. We have had to build a new barn put up all new fencing for pasture and build an arena. We are still in need of windows, doors, water and electricity in the barn and a round pen for the arena.
We have exhausted our own personal funds to keep our center open over the past 6 years. As a non profit, we do not take in enough income to cover all the costs of operation, therefore, additional funds come from us and the fundraisers and other efforts we make throughout the year.
Chris Davis and I started our center in 2009 so we could help the special needs community. Chris has been involved with horses since she was knee high to a grasshopper. She became involved with the Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Center in 2004 and fell in love with the program. She moved back to Florida in 2008 and became a Certified PATH instructor ... and our journey began. I was raised on a farm in Wisconsin and love to work with the horses and children. My life has been in corporate America and I am also an ordained minister.
We wanted a center where we can make everyone feel safe and a part of a family. We get to know the students and their families and encourage them each week as we see the improvement that is made. Our mission has always been that we will never turn a student away because they could not afford the lessons. We have provided scholarships over the years to allow them to benefit from this beautiful program. We take great pride in what we have accomplished over the last 6 years and we know that there is so much more we can do in the future. We are ready and willing and feel very blessed to be able to provide this program to the community.
Thank you,
Mary Kingslien, Chris Davis and the Healing Touch Board ... and our therapy horses,
Winston, Atilla, Finnegan, Indian, Shark, Squirt and Spirit
