Help Bernice Fight T-Cell Prolymphocytic Leukemia
Donation protected
On February 15 Bernice was given a the news that she had leukemia. In the week that followed she spent days in the hospital awaiting a definitive diagnosis as to what the exact type of leukemia that she had and what the next steps would be. Finally, after a lymph node biopsy, her leukemia had a name - T-cell Prolymphocytic Leukemia (T-PLL). In the weeks that followed and many doctors appointments the plan to go to Seattle in order to receive treatment was becoming a reality.
Treatment is in two phases
PHASE 1
12 weeks
3x a week infusions
Once she is in complete remission she will get to come home for a 2 month break
PHASE 2
12 weeks
Bone marrow transplant
Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 treatments are at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance - a total of 8 months minimum
Bernice and most her family live in Alaska. Because there is no leukemia treatment available in Alaska, the SCCA is the best place for her to receive what she needs to beat this illness. Unfortunately this also means that she had to leave behind her entire support system and family, including her 10 year old daughter, Nisi, in order to receive treatment.
Due to the geographic distance and financial hardship to travel, family visits are limited while Bernice is in Seattle. In addition Bernice is also facing an additional financial burden of housing and many other unexpected expenses during this 8 month treatment, all while trying to continue to support her ongoing financial obligations.
We are working to raise funds to help her pay for expenses as well as assist family members with travel in order to be with her during her treatment. No donation is too small and everything is appreciated. If you would like to donate miles from either Delta or Alaska Airlines please contact us and we can get you the appropriate account information.
Thank you in advance for your support of this amazing woman, friend, sister, aunt, daughter and mother.
