The full story
On Saturday early morning, October 7th 2023, the Yahalomi family from Nir Oz, Ohad, Batsheva and their three children, were sleeping at their home.
At 6:30am they woke up to the sound of a siren. They entered the emergency room (Mamad), as they were used to doin this situation.
They had a problem with the door of the Mamad and they couldn't lock it.
They quickly realized that this was not a normal situation, because they started hearing gunshots from outside at the house. They heard voices in Arabic and realized that there were Hamas terrorists outside. There were knocks on the doors and windows.
They smelled fires. They realized that something was very different.
After two hours of sitting in silence, with gunfire, missiles and machine guns outside, Ohad decided to protect his family and went outside the Mamad. He slammed the door of the room from the outside and waited outside the door with his gun.
When the terrorists broke into their home, threwing a grenade to break down the door and sprayed the whole house with weapons, Ohad was injured. Batsheva and the kids heard him screaming in pain. After a few minutes the terrorists broke into the Mamad.
The terrorists took the phones from the family and took Batsheva and her 3 children between the ages of 1.5 and 12 out of the house. While wearing pajamas and walking out barefoot, the terrorists put them on two motorcycles waiting outside the house.
Ohad ws left inside his house bleeding.
On the way out of the house, Batsheva tried to put the baby on Ohad in the hope that she will be safer but, the terrorists didn't agree. One of the terrorists picked the baby up and took her outside to Batsheva.
Batsheva and the girls were on one motorcycle and Ethan, the 12 years old boy was alone on a motorcycle with two terrorists on his sides with guns.
While they were racing on motorcycles towards Gaza, Batsheva and the kids saw the Kibbutz was destroyed and burning fire all over. Hundreds of terrorists were walking around the kibbutz.
Just before they entered to Gaza, Batsheva showed great courage, took advantage of a brief moment when the terrorists stopped the motorcycle, jumped with her daughters and managed to escape.
Unfortunately she couldn't save Ethan.
After jumping, Bat Sheva ran barefoot in the fields with the baby in one arm and pulling the little girl with the other hand. After a few kilometers of running, avoiding the terrorists who were all around, and lying down on the ground, pretending to be dead.
After About 3 hours she arrived to the kibbutz factory and decided to hide there.
It was a good decision because when they arrived at the factory area, she met with soldiers who took her to a safe place.
Batsheva thought Ohad was dead.
A few hours later, when soldiers entered Yahalomi family’s house, Ohad was no longer there. He was missing and nobody knew what happened to him.
A few days later, Batsheva received official notification that Ohad had been kidnapped.
She hopes he is still alive.
We are praying for Ethan, Ohad and all the children, woman and men who were kidnapped on this horrible day, to return back home safely to their families.
We hope to raise the necessary funds to help the Yahalomi family navigate the coming months as they work to rebuild their lives, their home and advocate for the safe return of Ohad and Ethan.
You can make a difference!
Your generous contribution, no matter how big or small, will be appreciated.
Thank you so much for your compassion and support.
