Toddler Kindney Cancer Treatment Support

I started this fundraiser last year with the goal of raising funds to secure housing for a single mother of four seeking asylum from Haiti. Through your support, they were able to leave the homeless shelter and pay for utilities and rent while they applied for housing support. I am very happy to report that this family has now been in long-term subsidized housing for over six months and is on the road to independence. It has been a joy working with them as they build their new life.

Unfortunately, on August 9, the mom took her two-year-old daughter to the ER with a severe stomach ache and received the news no parent wants to hear- her baby was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a rare form of kidney cancer. Four days later, her right kidney was removed. This week, she began radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

Thankfully, with treatment, her prognosis is very good. However, the financial strain on this family will be significant. Her treatment will require multiple trips to two different hospitals in Portland; without reliable transportation, this will be a challenge for the family.
