Help Our Dad Beat Pancreatic Cancer!!

On 23rd April 2020 our families’ lives changed forever. After feeling a little unwell for just a few short days our dad under went many tests. He was diagnosed with Advanced Pancreatic Cancer at just 51 years old and has to fight for his life.

Our Dad is fit and healthy and has never needed to stay in hospital before; he’d never had any medical problems other than breaking his wrist trying to be a heroic goalkeeper. He is perfectly healthy, even now if you seen my Dad you wouldn’t even know he was ill. He is still active and is currently being forced to decorate the garden so we can have a party together after lockdown. (joking about the being forced)

So as you can imagine it has come as a complete shock to our family. Our Dad is a dedicated family man who loves spending time and travelling with our Mum (Catherine) and his four children (us) and his two granddaughters (Ruby and Elsie). He is truly loved by all of us including his brother (Elliot) and sister (Tracey).

Personally my Dad is more than a father to me, we have always been close and are like best friends having shared a football pitch together (usually him telling me what to do) we’ve run marathons, watched our beloved Leeds United for many years together: we are both still hoping we win promotion this season as we have both longed to be back in the Premiership where we belong. We have all been lucky enough to share many holidays together with Florida being our favourite destination.

The only cure for Pancreatic Cancer is an operation to remove the tumour, our disappointment and upset was compounded further when the NHS surgeons said there is ZERO chance of our dad having the operation as the tumour is very close to the main artery. Even after Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy life expectancy is estimated at 12 months. This leaves us with a ’let’s enjoy the rest of the time we have left together’ scenario. Which is truly a sad place to be, none of us are ready to say goodbye to our Dad. So we and our dad have decided to fight.

After hours of extensive research we found a leading professor who specialises in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, and works out of a Private Hospital in London. Speaking to the professor has given us all hope, we have been told that there is a 40% chance that after 3 Months of Chemotherapy and 1 month of Radiotherapy that the Professor will re-assess our Dad’s case and depending on how the treatments go he is positive he will be able to operate and cure our Dad of this silent killer. Each case and patient are different but our Dad’s age and the fact he is so fit and healthy does stand him in a good position. This operation if it can be done will be in the region of £50,000 but this will be worth every penny, to see our Dad live and be able to enjoy life with his family!

We have set a goal of £50,000 to help towards the cost of the operation. We are determined to give our Dad the best chance of beating this.

Between us we will be doing some fundraising events over the coming months to go towards the operation. Our first will be to complete a 24 hour running event on a treadmill where between the 4 of us we will run, walk or crawl for 24 hours without the treadmill stopping hopefully in the meantime covering a 100 miles. Those who know us will know getting us on a treadmill will be a challenge in itself. This will take place on Sunday May 24th with a 7am start and finish Monday 25th at 7am.

Your generous donations will go directly towards our Dad’s operation. If the operation can’t be done (which we are all hoping wont be the case) then the money will be split between Pancreatic Cancer UK charity and the NHS. Please, give whatever you can afford. We are all very grateful for even the smallest of donations.

Thank you so much for your support!
