Help Rescue Wildlife from Bushfires & Drought

Donation protected

I'm Ginny, ex-volunteer at Paula & David - Wild Life Home. I create this page to support Paula & David's fantastic work for the rescue and protection of all animals in the Gympie region, QLD.

Since the beginning of the fire season, the Paula and David Wild Life Home faces a significant increase of injured, thirsty and starving animals coming to its shelter, leading to a bigger need in meds, alimentation, and water.

Paula and David, retired inhabitants of Glastonbury, near Gympie Region, have transformed their own home in a real wildlife sanctuary almost 20 years ago. Investing all their savings in rescuing and protecting Queensland wildlife. Their property has become real heaven for animals in needs, orphans and injured koalas, kangaroos, gliders, possums, birds, etc.

Paula & David could have decided to spend the rest of their life enjoying a comfortable retirement, traveling around the world or enjoying the Australian lifestyle.

But everything went different that day when David decided to stop his car in the middle of the highway, interrupting important traffic to help a possum crossing. From then, there was not a single day without David and Paula's involvement in animal rescue and rehabilitation. David has been seeding eucalyptus trees for years to provide shelter and food provisions to koalas. At night time, dozens of Kangaroos, Possums and other Gliders meet at the sanctuary to be fed.

Paula, ex-nurse, has trained and transformed her skills to adapt to wildlife needs. She now rescues, feeds and heals very different types of wild animals that have been injured in domestic animal incidents,  injured trying to cross lands split by human fences or recently with intense bush fires and drought.  Paula is a very impressive woman who barely sleeps, feeding many baby kangaroos during the night. As if it wasn't enough, she is also one of the very active members of A.N.A.R.R.A. (Australian Native Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Association), leading many talks and training sessions every month.

Traveling in Australia with my partner 3 years ago, we were looking for an experience in animal care and/or rescue. And like most tourists/backpackers, we wanted to pet a koala or kangaroo! Initially planned to stay 2 weeks, we ended staying almost 3 months with Paula & David! Their work, passion, and dedication are inspiring.

With the help of almost hundreds of volunteers per year (welcomed generously), they dedicate 100% of their time to save as many animals as possible. And most of this is done with their own savings! They are helped with few donations here and there but not being recognized as a sanctuary yet, they have very little help from the government.

The dam of their property,  used to provide continuous water, is dry and the surrounding forest has burnt, leaving the animals without food and water.

"Due to the drought, we are feeding our animals in care plus the animals we have released are coming back to be fed, older starving animals are coming into care and need to be isolated and kept quiet for a safe recovery, it also needs to be ascertained these do not carry infectious disease," Paula says.

Today, this wildlife home, this heaven is in a fragile situation due to very hot and dry weather but moreover because of Paula & David's money running out.  They won't stop because they are too old, too tired or because they resign... the only thing that will make them stop is the miss of financial resources.

Please, help us maintain this incredible place that has already saved and released hundreds and hundreds of animals. Help Paula & David's continue their astonishing efforts. And of course, help those fantastic animals, symbols of Australia, who couldn't survive without them.
