Help Saed build a recycling facility in Gaza.
My name is Léna and I am friends with a girl in Gaza who's brother just lost his main source of income. I want to help them both by raising funds to build a recycling facility in Gaza. It's an ambitious goal but if achieved will be a massive boost to the community there.
Ireland has long standing solidarity with the Palestinian cause and I believe we can help them achieve this goal.
Saed's main source of income; online video content - was destroyed due to online censorship. He spoke out about the recent atrocities which, like many others, led to his public account being deleted.
He made his living this way due to staggering 70% youth unemployment in Gaza. This is despite having both a nursing and engineering degree.
He now wants to turn this situation around by building a recycling facility in Gaza. This will also give back to the community there by employing at least 100 people.
Learn more about his story from the heartfelt words of his sister Hadeel:
"This is my message to the world. Today I stand in front of you with a vanishing identity, of course you don't know who I am.
Why do I exist? I am the Palestinian, who the occupation denied a right to live free. They are kicking us out of our home, stealing our land and not letting us come back. However, it wasn't enough, they want to destroy our dreams and ambitions too.
So I'll tell you my story, I have an older brother who studied nursing for two years here in Gaza at Al-Azhar University but because of the difficult situation here, he fought hard to study abroad. He joined the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at Istanbul Aydin University and after completing his studies returned to the homeland, 5 years later. He looked hard for work but the situation is chronic and he didn't find anything. He didn't give up though and created social media accounts for streaming video content.
He hoped to make a profit from the internet world and after many years of trying, often staying up all night to raise only 1$, he finally realised his dream. He found his voice to the outside world but he is a Palestinian and so faces many difficulties. There are those who fight his dream. When the most recent attack on Gaza happened, he had to speak up on his platform to show what is really happening. There is an occupier who knows only the language of power and so he, like many others, was digitally executed. He lost his account and all the money, years and effort he put into building it.
He worked against all odds to build his future. Now he will do this all over again from scratch. He will put his knowledge of engineering to use but needs your help to finance it. Imagine that without warning, someone comes and steals what you worked for, for years. Do we deserve that? Simply because we are Palestinian. Tell me is it because our dreams and freedom are a threat to existence? Or is it because we are the voice of truth?
So what we need is for you to help give us back our freedom, voices and our invisible dreams.
These are my last words, please don't let us down and keep on fighting for what is right!"
