Saving Shelly’s Life From Complete Ruin - A plea for help!
Hello, I'm Diana How, and I'm launching this campaign on behalf of my dear friend, Shelly, who is grappling with an incredibly challenging situation resulting from a severe accident caused by another driver.
Background
Shelly and I share a friendship spanning over 26 years. On a bright sunny Sunday afternoon while traveling to an event, expecting it would be a fun day, it turned into a day that changed their lives forever.
On September 12, 2004, a reckless driver made an illegal left turn in front of Shelly's van as she traveled along Highway 22X in Calgary, Alberta—a highway notorious for fatal accidents, causing a catastrophic collision. Traveling at approximately 93 km/hr, due to the high speed, her van spun around and a second collision occurred. Miraculously, Shelly and her family survived, but the aftermath has been a relentless battle against physical, emotional, and financial devastation.

As a result of the accident, Shelly suffered;
• A mild traumatic brain injury with permanent impairments from the airbag that deployed over 400kms/hr.
• A deviated septum in her nose causing breathing difficulties and sleep apnea.
• And multiple injuries to her neck, shoulder, lower back, hip, and internal organs.
The injuries Shelly has suffered are lifelong and require her to be in frequent, life-long painful treatments to reduce her pain for her to function.
Shelly's partner, also injured in the accident, faced complications leading to being prescribed Oxycontin, becoming addicted and eventually overdosing and dying, leaving their child without a father.
Unjust Treatment
Shelly, a successful professional, was unjustly fired from her job, due to needing time flexibility to attend medical appointments and treatments when she returned to work after the accident. That same law firm agreed to represent the guilty driver and his insurer, despite that blatant conflict of interest.
The legal battle for compensation was marred by deceitful tactics, hiring inappropriate specialists to write false reports, and getting a judge known to rule on bias, not facts and evidence.
Financial Hardship
Shelly’s loss of income claim was $1,000,000. alone. Instead of being compensated for losses and ongoing costs, she faces a staggering debt of $350,000., as a result of having to pay out of pocket for assessments, treatments, medical expenses, and trial costs.
She had to deplete her retirement savings and her son's education fund, and has lost 20 years of pension contributions, leaving her in dire financial straits, including in her retirement years.
Because the judgment was so low it didn't cover the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on trial costs. A Writ of Enforcement has been registered against her home, in the name of the driver who was charged for causing the accident.
A Humble Plea
We are reaching out to you as a community to rally behind Shelly and help her overcome the gross injustice she has faced. Shelly deserves to rise about the hardships and regain a semblance of a normal life for her and her child. She has endured more stress and suffering than any individual I have ever known has, or any individual should. She's the most deserving person I know to receive aid.
