Help Veronica Bring Smiles to the Community.

Hello Everyone!

 

My name is Mai and I am the Program Director at Vi Can Shine! I am here to help raise money to help fund projects that Veronica Doan (Substance Misuse and Migrant Workers Counselor) from Watari Counselling & Support Services Society would like to offer to the people she serves.

 

Veronica has been on our radio show and podcast to share her personal struggles with mental health and to talk about the work she does in supporting people that live in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and Strathcona. She helps seniors, people on disability benefits, people struggling with addiction and mental health, people living in shelters and SRO (single room occupancy housing), and the homeless.

 

She is also part of the Community Addictions Counselling Team and leads the Vietnamese Group. Every Thursday, the group gathers together to eat Vietnamese food and socialize with each other.

 

Veronica has spoken to me about experiences that she would like to be able to offer to the people. Most of them are really simple, like hosting a picnic where people can enjoy some food and play games at the park.

 

I would love to be able to help Veronica so she can bring a little joy to the people who are struggling. Everyone needs a break from their situation from time to time. Most importantly, everyone needs a few happy moments in their lives to give them hope for better days.

 

The money will be collected by me and then sent to Watari Counselling & Support Services Society and placed into a fund that Veronica will be able to access to fund her projects. These are the projects that she has plans for:

 

1. Field trips to the Parks, Gardens, lakes, or beaches.

 

2. Arts and Crafts Project (painting, ornaments, terrariums to bring home.)

 

3. Picnics/BBQ + Games with everyone.

 

4. Visiting seniors in their homes and those who are sick in hospitals.

 

We would be grateful to just be able to fund one of the items on Veronica's list!
