Help Walaa Escape the Struggles of Camp Life

Donation protected
My name is Walaa, and I live with my family in a refugee camp. Life here is harder than I could have ever imagined. The tents are overcrowded, and we don't have enough water or basic sanitation. In the summer, the heat is unbearable—it feels like we are living inside an oven. And when winter comes, the cold cuts through the thin fabric of our tent, making it impossible to stay warm. Every day is a battle for survival, and all I dream about is giving my children a safe place to call home.

More About Me

I am Walaa, a Palestinian English teacher and a proud mother of three—Fatima, Abdullah, and Mohammed.

Teaching has always been my passion, and I believe education can change lives, even in the hardest of times. Despite living in a refugee camp, I do my best to create a sense of normalcy for my children, and I continue to teach young students in my community. But balancing my role as a mother and teacher has become increasingly difficult under these harsh conditions. This campaign is about more than finding a home; it’s about giving me and my children the chance to live with dignity and stability, so I can continue being the mother and teacher they deserve.

The Health Crisis in the Camps

The refugee camps face dire health issues, and my family is no exception. The intense summer heat brings skin diseases, and we struggle with constant insect bites. In the winter, the cold leads to other illnesses like diarrhea, especially in children. Gaza's healthcare system is already overburdened, and in the camps, we are even more vulnerable. Every illness feels like a threat to my children, but we have no choice but to endure these conditions.

The Dream of Escaping Tent Life

Every night, I think about how life could be different. I dream of a small apartment where my children can sleep safely and grow up with dignity. But it’s nearly impossible. So many homes have been destroyed, and the demand for housing has driven prices beyond our reach. Even with all my hopes, we cannot afford the high cost of rent in a place so crowded with displaced families. But I still dream, for the sake of my children.

From Home to Rubble: The Heartbreaking Reality of Destruction

This picture shows the terrible damage that has happened to my home. The furniture and cabinets, which were once organized, have fallen over and are broken. Clothes and other items are now scattered everywhere, covered in dust and rubble. The walls and parts of the building have been damaged, with pieces of concrete crumbling. It’s clear that a lot of destruction has taken place, and it is painful to see everything we worked for turned into ruins. This image shows the chaos and sadness we are living through after losing our home.

How Your Donation Can Make a Difference

Your help could mean the world to us. The money we receive from this campaign will go toward securing a place to live outside the camp. It will cover our rent, but it will also help with our day-to-day needs—medicine for my children, food to put on the table, and clothing to keep them warm in the winter. Your contribution will allow us to escape the harsh reality of camp life and give my family a chance to live with dignity.
