Help Ken get out of medical debt

Hi, my name is Kenneth Shepard. You might know me from Kotaku, Fanbyte, Normandy FM, or other places I've written and spoken into a microphone over the years.

In November, I had a life-altering jaw surgery to get rid of years-long chronic pain, and because the American healthcare system is what it is, I was left with several thousand dollars of debt even after insurance and COBRA. Some of this came from emergency room visits after life-threatening complications, but a lot of it is just bleeding over from all the surgeon and specialist visits. It was a years-long process, but I've been trying to make payments just to keep debt collectors off my back, but some of it has been moved to collections as I attempt to keep other bills at bay.

The trouble is, all of this was happening as I was laid off from my one job and my new one required me to move across the country with no relocation assistance. So I lost all my savings and New York rent is not cheap. So any assistance y'all can offer to help get me out of this hole would help me build my new life in this new city rather than being dragged down by medical debt.
