Help Rebuild Good News Denver Church After Devastating Fire

Hello, my name is Pastor Daniel Jeong from Good News Denver Church. In the early morning of Sunday, January 26th, at 2:30 AM, a fire broke out in our church. A homeless individual, trying to keep warm in the freezing weather, lit a fire just outside my office. Tragically, the flames spread to the church building, destroying my entire office and causing severe damage to the adjacent office, part of the hallway, and the men’s restroom. Sadly, our beloved church cat, who was sleeping in the office, did not survive. Firefighters responded quickly, tearing open part of the roof to extinguish the fire, but the person responsible was never found. The estimated cost of repairs is around $200,000, but unfortunately, we had not yet renewed our insurance policy due to financial difficulties. This means that we have no insurance coverage to help us recover from this disaster. That is why I am reaching out to you today—we desperately need your help.

Our Journey & Mission My wife and I came to the U.S. 11 years ago as missionaries from South Korea. We started our church in a small two-bedroom apartment, often struggling to make ends meet. There were times when we had nothing but soy sauce and rice to eat, times when we couldn’t afford gas and had to walk everywhere. When our first daughter was just a year old, we had no place to live and spent six months sleeping in our car. Despite these hardships, we never lost faith. We trusted in God and waited with hope, believing He had a greater plan. And three years ago, by the grace of God, we miraculously acquired a 1.7-acre property with a 19,000 sq. ft. church building. Knowing that this was a blessing from the Lord, we dedicated ourselves to giving back to the community in every way we could.

 • Gracias Christmas Cantata – Each year, we invite thousands of people to a free Christmas performance, bringing joy to over 30,000 people over the years.

 • Community Garden – We grow and donate over 3,000 pounds of fresh produce annually to local food banks.

 • Senior Outreach – We provide support and encouragement to seniors through community programs.

 • Free Korean Classes – We teach Korean to those who want to learn, sharing knowledge and culture.

 • Taste of Korea – Last year, through this free festival, we introduced over 6,000 people to Korean culture as a way to express our deep gratitude to the American people.

 • Upcoming Projects – This year, we planned to open an academy and a free daycare for low-income families.

Why Your Help Matters South Korea, my homeland, could not have survived the Korean War without America’s help, and for the past 70 years, our two nations have been the strongest allies. South Korea’s rapid growth and success were possible because of the support from the United States. That is why, for the past 11 years, I have been honored to serve the people of America—both as a missionary and as a pastor. I do not want to blame or condemn the person who set the fire. I believe God allowed this to happen for a reason. Instead of seeing this as a tragedy, I see it as an opportunity for God’s blessings. I have faith that through this challenge, He will open new doors for our church and our mission. We need your support to rebuild and continue serving our community.
