Help The 1905 Staff & Musicians During COVID
Donation protected
Dear Friends of The 1905:
We had hoped to never be in this position, but here we are. Omicron has struck Portland and with that, The 1905. Though we know of only a handful of cases that have passed through our doors, we feel it is prudent to close for a week or so in order to keep our hardworking staff, musicians, and patrons as safe as possible. As you can imagine, the financial consequences of this closure are substantial for us in our 1905 family and those that we care about.
This GoFundMeis a humble request to help us stay afloat while we have no revenue. What does “stay afloat” mean?
- Pay our staff that will not have work
- Pay the musicians whose performances are canceled
- Assist with our utilities so the lights will be on when we reopen
- Cover the cost of perishable food and beverage that will have to be restocked in order to reopen
You might ask: “why don’t you operate with a skeleton crew?” The answer is: we already do, so the impact of only a couple employees being unavailable has a dramatic effect on our ability to provide quality service and products.
You might also ask: “can’t you lay off or furlough your employees?” No. COVID-19 unemployment benefits are no longer available and a 7-10 day layoff will not provide the necessary relief to keep our employees housed and fed.
At The 1905, we take great pride in offering a special experience for our patrons and performers: a delicious meal, a creative beverage, and the highest quality jazz around. In our pursuit to offer these things, it goes without saying that we must provide a safe and healthy environment to do so.
We are incredibly grateful to our patrons who have continued to make this possible as we’ve navigated a very challenging two years. If you’re financially able to support this campaign, it will help us to support our hardworking staff, the music community impacted by our closure, and the entire 1905 family as we continue to deliver the exceptional food, booze and jazz experience you’ve come to know and love.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
