Help Support The Vasquez' Cancer Battle
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,
It is with a heavy heart that we reach out to you today, seeking your assistance and support for Izzy Vasquez and his family.
Izzy is currently fighting stage 4 cancer and is still working even though tomorrow is not promised, all so he can still help support his family all the way until his last breath.
I am starting this go fund me to help Izzy spend his last days, hopefully months, with his wife and children to relieve the financial stress they are currently feeling.
The funds received will also help with other expenses they are enduring currently and will deal with after Izzy's passing.
To prepare for his upcoming death, their family has already begun packing to move to a home that his wife Angelica can afford on solely her teaching income. This is a very delicate and trying time for their family as you can imagine.
Every donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference for the Vasquez family.
Please consider making a donation and sharing this fundraiser with your network. Together, we can rally around Izzy and his family during this difficult time and show them that they are not alone.
Izzy's Cancer Battle:
On February 15 on 2023, Izzy was rushed to Methodist Hospital Northeast for paralyzing chest pain. Blood work and scans later indicated elevated tumor markers and a large mass on his left lung. At this point Izzy was transferred to a special unit, where a biopsy concluded that the tumor was in fact a rare mixture of two types of cancers, Seminoma and Non Seminoma Germ Cell Tumor that presented in his chest. This sudden diagnosis has been a shock and pure heartbreak to all of us, as Izzy has always been the cornerstone of our family.
In the beginning of Izzy's Cancer Treatment Journey, Dr. Kapoor was very hopeful that his cancer would be 100% curable. Izzy diligently attended his chemotherapy sessions once a month 5 days a week for 6 months. On his last chemotherapy treatment testing and scans revealed that his cancer had progressed and doubled in size. His Oncologist explained that Izzy was resistant to chemotherapy and would require a different treatment plan. Under the care and direction of his Oncologist and Radiation Oncologist, his cancer treatment included radiation treatment 5 times per week, for 8 weeks. Once radiation treatment was completed, testing and scans determined that radiation had no impact and his cancer did not respond to the treatment.
Due to Izzy's rare case of cancer and non response to either chemotherapy or radiation, he was referred to MD Anderson for further treatment. During Thanksgiving break of 2023, Izzy was once again experiencing paralyzing chest pain and difficulty breathing. Under the advise of his Dr, we showed up to MD Anderson ER in Houston Tx., and he was admitted right away. Scans and testing indicated that the tumor was now so large it was compressing the entirety of his left lung and constricting his airways on the affected side. The tumor also created a mediastinal shift and has pushed his heart to the right side of his body, placing him in further risk for heart attack and stroke. In addition, due to the large size of the tumor pressing up against his lung, Izzy has developed a pulmonary embolism, which also places him in even greater risk. During his MD Anderson visit he was placed on blood thinners permanently, underwent a Thoracentesis procedure to remove excess liquid from the affected lung, and placed on oxygen. In the end, MD Anderson was not able to recommend any further treatment to save Izzy’s life, his cancer was incurable due to chemo/radiation resistance. Due to his diagnosis no further treatment was available, and he was advised to enjoy the holidays with his family and make preparations for his family in his absence. The devastating diagnosis of terminal cancer has completely altered the life trajectory of our family and we began a grueling and heartbreaking journey to prepare for life once he is no longer with us.
Currently, Izzy is still battling stage IV cancer. His health has begun to deteriorate with every passing day. Some days he barely has the energy to walk around, get up, or even eat. Of course, our family is always holding onto that hope and praying for a miracle, he is just about to complete his 4th round of experimental chemotherapy, and as starting radiation treatment for cancer that has spread to his liver.
From the bottom of our hearts the Vasquez Family thanks you <3
