Help Becky survive breast cancer!

Donation protected
Our friend Becky was recently diagnosed with 2 different types of breast cancer at in one breast: invasive ductal carcinoma, and ductal carcinoma in situ. On Tuesday, October 2, 2018, she is scheduled to undergo a mastectomy as the first part of a long journey in her recovery.

Becky is the single mom of her daughter, Bri. To say they live paycheck-to-paycheck is putting it mildly. They literally survive one paycheck away from a utility being shut off or falling behind on a mortgage payment. Becky’s individual in-network medical deductible is $4500 which she must meet before insurance begins to pay for any charges. She will also be responsible for co-insurances and co-pays for medical equipment, as well as testing services, additional doctor’s visits, and other necessary medical expenses following the surgery. Adding to that, she has very little paid time off from work to utilize, so she will be receiving little to no income during the time she needs to take off to recover.

Becky has raised her daughter on her own for her entire life. She has always done everything to provide for both of them no matter how difficult the circumstances. They have both participated in fund-raisers for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for the last 4 years, and now she herself is in need of help. Becky deserves this assistance from her community. She has a huge heart and would do anything in her power to benefit a fellow human. She has spent the better part of the last several years caring for her daughter who is fighting her own health battles with RSD, fibromyalgia, acute mitral valve prolapse, and severe depression. Together they have helped Bri make great progress, but she still has a long road ahead. And now Becky is fighting her own battle, and needs help from the community.

The biggest cause of distress in Becky’s life right now is that this surgery and her recovery will cause her to fall behind in house and medical bills, and she will not have the ability to rebound. If she falls too far behind, she fears losing the home she and Bri have built together. We have launched this campaign because unlike many of us, Becky doesn’t have anyone else in her life to turn to for help. For many years it’s been Becky and Bri against the world. Let’s all do what we can to chip in, and rally around Becky and let her know she’s not alone in this fight.

Becky needs these funds to pay for her medical insurance deductible, other medical expenses, and to remain current with her house bills and sustain the basic necessities for herself and Bri during her recovery. She doesn’t yet know how long this road will be, so we are doing our best to raise as much as possible - as quickly as possible - to set her mind at ease before she heads into surgery next week.

Additionally, Becky did not have a comfortable couch, recliner, or any other furniture at home. We were concerned that this would impede her recovery, so some funds may have been allocated to that. She also does not have a television, cable, or internet service in her home. We have inquired with therecoverychair.org and thankfully we've learned that they are able to loan her a power recliner while she’s recovering! We did not have to utilize any of her funds for this at all! We are so grateful for that organization. It’s one less thing to weigh on Becky’s mind at this time.

Thank you for your caring and concern for our courageous friend during her time of hardship. Please share this page as much as possible so we can help Becky get everything she needs!
