Fresh local produce for Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows seniors!
Seniors living in our communities have become increasingly at risk of experiencing food insecurity and malnutrition. As rents and food prices increase, individuals living on limited pensions are struggling to access enough food - especially fresh produce.
The BC Farmers Market Nutritional Coupon Program provides help for seniors and families around the province. This year in Maple Ridge, less than an hour after registration opened, the program was at capacity. Staff from the Family Education and Support Centre, the partner organization for the Haney Farmers Market, had to turn away many, many disappointed seniors. We can do something to help!
The Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Katzie, Seniors Network is hosting this Go Fund Me campaign to purchase more Nutritional Coupons for local seniors to use at the Haney Farmers Market. The coupons have a value of $27 per week for 16 weeks. Sponsoring one senior's participation in the program costs $432. Our goal is to raise $8,640 and be able to add 20 seniors to the program for 2024! We can't do this alone. Every dollar counts.
All funds raised will go directly to the Family Education & Support Centre in Maple Ridge to purchase Nutritional Coupons for our seniors (65+) to use at the Haney Farmers Market this year.
