Kim's Story.....

On October 14th my mom was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. She is 95% curable which is a huge blessing! First of all I am asking for prayers for my mom. My mom hasn't been working at her current job for very long. She signed up for her benefits at the beginning of October. She signed up for Medical, Dental and Vision. Plus she signed up for Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability and Critical Illness insurance as well. The effective date for her insurance was November 1st. So it turns out because she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer prior to her effective date none of the short term or long term disability or the critical illness insurance will cover her illness. Of course her medical insurance is paying, but she has a large deductible she has to pay for 2016 and then again for 2017. Plus $40 co-pays at every doctors appointment. Plus she hasn't been with her employer long enough to qualify for FMLA and she hasn't accumulated enough PTO to cover any of her days off. Her co-workers have offered to donate PTO to her but she doesn't qualify for that until she has been there for a year.

My mom is working her full-time and part-time job while going through her chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is causing my mom many side effects including nausea, body aches, back pain, migraines, hair loss and extreme fatigue. As you can imagine working 2 jobs while feeling this sick is very hard on her. And after chemo is finished she will be having a double mastectomy. For that surgery she will have to be off work for 4 to 6 weeks, with no pay.

My mom has been helping other's her whole life. She has been in EMS for 24 years and is currently working at St. Joseph Hospital in the ER. I'm hoping we can help her for a change.

My mom raised my brother and I by working multiple jobs just to get by, as a single mom. She doesn't deserve to be suffering like this. I am hoping if we can help her, financially, so hopefully we can relieve some of the burden off of her.

I just want to thank you in advance for any help you can give. Any amount would be appreciated. Even $5 from a 100 people adds up to $500. So every little bit counts.

I know there are a lot of Breast Cancer survivors out there. So if you can please share this so maybe some survivors will be willing to help out a little bit since they know what my mom is going through.

Thank you so much!!!!
