Help Wallace Fight Leukemia

Donation protected

We first met Wallace and his brother Moose on weekend trips to the pet store that my son, John, and I would go on.  Our attention was instantly drawn to him, the largest cat we had ever seen, as he sat by himself in a cage obviously meant for a cat half his size.  My then 5 year old son pointed at him and said “Dad it’s a monster kitty” because he was so large.  John instantly fell in love with the “monster kitty”, who we learned was named Wally.  John and I returned to the pet store every weekend for the next couple of months and I assured him each time that someone would adopt Wally.  As time went on and nobody adopted him we became that “somebody” and took him and his much more cat size brother home.  We noticed right away that Wally, who we renamed Wallace, had an uncanny ability to detect what family member needed him the most and attach himself to them.  When my daughter was having trouble adjusting to a new school and new friends, he was always with her, even allowing her to carry him up to her room every night by slinging him over her shoulder.

As it turned out I would soon need Wallace after I was injured at work and lost my job of twelve years.  The job loss was soon followed by a divorce and the absence of my children three days a week.  My home of ten years was soon a lonely place for me to be, but every night when I came home Wallace had a habit of greeting me at the front door and walking around the empty house with me.  Over the years Wallace has made being the official door greater his job and he can always be found in the living room at the end of the day sitting with the children and I.

We were deeply saddened today when we took him to the vet that he has leukemia and will need extensive treatment if he has any hope to survive.  Estimated initial vet charges are approximately $4,000 to stabilize before we can start cancer treatment.

Wallace is truly a part of our family and we want to do whatever we can to save him.  Your help in contributing to save our family member would be most appreciated.
