I request your support in helping Shanee Mitchell and her family with financial challenges while she goes on family medical leave from work to further fight cancer.
Shanee's Story......
On March 30, 2016, my daughter, and only child, Shanee, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Shanee is 35 years old with three children ages 6, 8, and 14 and married to Wesley Mitchell. She is a Lieutenant with the Philadelphia Police Department currently assigned to the 1st District. Since her diagnosis, she has undergone chemotherapy, radiation, and a bilateral mastectomy. She travels to Chicago every three weeks to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America for her treatments, which is both exhausting and costly. While CTCA covers her airfare, they do not cover airfare for her caretaker or the cost for lodging and meals.

On May 2, 2017 she will undergo her second of three surgeries, followed by a third surgery two months later. During her recovery, Shanee will need to take a Family Medical Leave of Absence from work. Unfortunately, she was out of work for an extensive amount of time after the first surgery and depleted her sick time. Her FMLA will be without pay. Her husband Wesley will also need to take a FMLA without pay to care for her during her recovery. The doctors say that a full recovery will take approximately six months. Although her pay will stop, her expenses will not.
Why Should You Support?.....
Shanee is a very lively and jovial person and cancer has not changed that. She continuously wears a smile and has faced this disease head on with a determination that I have never seen before. Her bubbly and upbeat personality lights up the room when she walks in. Anyone who knows her can tell you that although she is in pain daily and often weak and tired, she has not complained even once. In her own words “I have to stay positive and upbeat, otherwise cancer will win and I will die.”

All proceeds will go towards financial challenges while she recovers, giving her peace of mind so that she can focus on healing. Although she is very strong, this is a battle that she cannot fight alone. Shanee goes above and beyond for others, always selflessly putting herself last, even during her illness.
