Help the Kwok family in their fight with ALS

Please help us raise funds for Ki Shing Kwok and his family. Ki is a loving friend, husband, father and an enterprising small business owner who began deteriorating and losing control of his limbs in 2018 with his symptoms rapidly worsening. In 2019 his family received the devastating news that Ki has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis also called ALS and Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that destroys nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. What causes ALS is unknown. ALS often begins with slurred speech, muscle twitching or weakness in a limb as it did for Ki. Eventually, ALS affects control of the muscles needed to move, speak, swallow, and breathe. There is no cure for this disease and treatment usually involves managing symptoms.
Ki celebrated his 55th birthday in March 2020 with friends and family nearby. His loving and devoted wife, Sandra, has been fully dedicated to caring for Ki who now has very limited mobility. His son Adrian, a high school sophomore, had to quit basketball and other extracurricular activities to help out at the family store which is their only source of income. His daughter, Marysol, is in middle school and has been taking care of her dad while helping her mom with household chores.
Like so many Americans, Ki does not have medical insurance. Because of this, Ki's health care expenses have been taking a heavy toll on the Kwok family as they have been paying out of pocket for Ki's doctor visits and treatments. We are hoping that with your help we can raise funds to help with Ki's medical bills and create a safety net for the Kwok family.
I know we are in the middle of a pandemic and many people have been laid off and are themselves struggling financially. Any amount you can give - no matter how small - will make a huge difference for Ki and his family, though. Por favor, ayúdenos a recaudar fondos para nuestro querido amigo Ki Shing y su familia. Ki es un buen amigo, esposo, padre, así como el dueño de un pequeño negocio. Ki empezó a perder el control de sus extremidades y a deteriorarse rápidamente desde 2018. En 2019 su familia recibió la triste y devastadora noticia de que Ki presentaba la enfermedad de esclerosis múltiple, en ingles conocida como ALS. ALS es una enfermedad del sistema nervioso que destruye las células nerviosas del cerebro y la medula espinal, causando la perdida del control muscular. La causa que produce esta enfermedad es aun desconocida. Puede comenzar con dificultad en el habla, espasmos musculares o debilidad en las extremidades, como le ocurrió a Ki. A veces afecta al control de los músculos que se necesitan en el movimiento, para hablar, tragar o respirar. No existe una cura para esta enfermedad y su tratamiento incluye únicamente paliar los síntomas del enfermo.
Ki celebró su cumpleaños numero 55 en Marzo de 2020, rodeado de amigos y familia cercana. Su amorosa y dedicada esposa, Sandra, ha estado dedicada a tiempo completo al cuidado de Ki, quien ahora tiene movilidad muy limitada. Su hijo, Adrian, estudiante de High School, ha tenido que dejar de asistir a sus entrenamientos de baloncesto, para poder ayudar en el negocio familiar, ya que este es la única fuente de ingresos de la familia. Su hija Marysol, estudiante de Middle School, cuida de su papa mientras su madre se encarga de las tareas del hogar.
Al igual que muchos americanos, Ki no tiene seguro medico. A causa de esto, la familia cuenta con una extensa deuda medica y se ven limitados a seguir acudiendo a sus citas debido a la misma. Esperamos que con vuestra ayuda podamos recaudar fondos para ayudar con las facturas medicas y así crear una red segura para la familia de Ki.
