Help Save Peanut
On my way home from school a few months ago, I noticed a stray dog in traffic so I stopped and helped her to a safe area thinking surely she had just strayed from her home. Well, she followed me and made herself at home. Numerous attempts were made to find this sweet girl's family but no one came forward to claim her. In the meantime, we discovered she was pregnant!
A few weeks later while I was away at school, Tammy-Edna delivered three puppies, two females and one male at my front door. The runt of the liter, the male (little Peanut), weighed in at just over 100 grams. The three puppies appeared to be healthy and all seemed to be nursing just fine.
A few days later, we noticed what appeared to be a cut on Peanut's leg and he was struggling to latch on and nurse properly. We kept a close watch on him but he was deteriorating fast so we rushed him to the emergency vet. He was dehydrated with a severely low body temp and his leg was indeed injured. In order for him to survive and heal, we had to separate him from the pack, bottle feed him every 2-3 hours throughout the day and night, antiobiotics twice a day, stimulation and a warm bed.
The leg has finally healed from multiple abscesses, follow up vet visits and the total commitment of a village of friends and family. Unfortunately, during one of the follow up vet visits, it was discovered little Peanut has a soft tissue cleft palate. This is an extremely serious diagnosis and many puppies aspirate or die from pneumonia with this condition. Surgery is available and we are doing everything we can to help him thrive, grow and get stronger for the surgery.
Peanut is now 7 weeks old and weighs 3lbs. The surgeon is recommending surgery, based on his progress, at 12-14 weeks. Peanut is growing and thriving every day. Although he is small, he has a huge personality, he is happy, loves to play, loves people and is my little shadow wherever I go.
The surgery to repair his cleft palate is very expensive - $2800. We are asking for your help in raising this amount. Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated. We have About 6 weeks to try and raise the funds. Please help save little Peanut! Without the surgery, he will not survive. Thank you!
