Kelly was rushed to Darenth Valley Hospital on 2nd December after a nearly fatal seizure at home leaving her brain without oxygen at 35 weeks pregnant, after a second seizure 3 hours later at hospital and a CT scan she was told that she had a tumour on her brain and the likelihood that it was from the stage 3 malignant melanoma that she had been put in remission from in April earlier this year. She was transferred to Kings College Hospital in London where the neuro surgery team were able to monitor her and keep her stable ton reduce the swelling to her brain and prevent her from having further seizures.
Her brain had severe swelling, the tumour on the right of her brain was pushing the left side of her brain causing loss of movement and balance to her left side she was confused and suffering with concentration and connectivity issues unable to walk alone.
After 7 days of high strength steriods and anti seizure medication to stop her having countless seizures the swelling had been reduced enough for her baby to be delivered safely via C-section there was a big worry that she wouldn’t make it through the surgery but thankfully her and her baby boy made it out.
Once her baby was born they were able to give Kelly the much needed MRI scan with contrast they needed to be able to find out how bad the tumour was and if it was primary or secondary brain cancer.
Unfortunately their suspicions were corrrect and the tumour was secondary metatastic malignant melanoma tumour and that it had already metastasised, meaning the cancer has already spread from her brain to other location/s thought her body, it is in her blood stream so she just a sitting duck waiting to see where it turns up next.
After 8 more days of so many medications they were able to carry out a craniotomy (brain surgery) to remove the tumour, unfortunately the whole tumor couldn’t be removed without paralysing Kelly and causing her permanent damage to her movement and brain function so a small part was left behind.
She recovered well from surgery and was eager to get home to her children in time for Christmas.
Kelly is still struggling with mobility and weakness on her left side but have physio coming up and doesn’t let this get her down she stays in a positive mindset and showing her children and family how strong minded she is even though she shares she is scared she is also ready to fight this head on and has been a true inspiration to us all.
Kelly has been taken on by the best melanoma oncologist in the UK at the Royal Marsden Hospital where she will be undergoing targeted radio therapy and a very intrusive double form of immunotherapy for the next 2 years, she has been warned the side effects of these therapies will be life changing for Kelly and even more so due to another health condition (fibromyalgia) she has had for several years the symptoms of this will also be amplified massively like it did on her last round of immunotherapy making her muscles and joint extremely weak and in constant pain (she hadn’t regained her strength from the cancer therapy she finished in October 2023) and she could be wheelchair bound but this is the least of her problems just staying alive over the next year is her biggest fight she has been given a 50% chance of the treatment working for her should this treatment fail to work in the first year there will be no other treatment available to Kelly and she will be put on palliative care.
Kelly has 4 children aged 17, 15, 7 and a 4 week old baby she is petrified of leaving her children without their mum they have already seen Kelly go through years of cancer treatments and surgeries and has been fighting the cancer which originally started in 2017 after the birth of her 7 year old daughter, she is scared for them seeing how weak this next round of treatment is going to make her and that she could possibly end up in hospital to help manage the severe symptoms she is likely to encounter so of which are life threatening, but she knows she has no choice she either fights with everything she has for the best chance of surviving or she gives up which she is not willing to do.
She needs around the clock care at the moment for her and her children her partner has been advised to give up work and spend the next year looking after Kelly and the children this has come as a big blow to everyone and the impact is going to be massive for her and her family.
Kelly isn’t one to usually receive help she is the one always helping others going above and beyond to make other people’s lives easier and puts everyone’s needs and feelings before her own her selflessness is truly commendable we all wish we could do more for Kelly so I have set this go fund me page up to try and make her difficult journey a little less stressful and alleviate the stress of financial burden and have one less thing to worry about with everything else her and her family have going on it’s a drop in the ocean for all the things they need right now and have the added stress of finding a house suitable for Kellys’s needs.
They are still processing the news and numb from the diagnosis.
Please donate as generously as possible and also please keep Kelly and her family in your prayers she needs and deserves a miracle right now and she is praying every day for the strength to beat this cancer.
