Help us fight Abuses of Power in Cortland NY!
Donation protected
After purchasing our first home in January or 2022, Andrew and I have been the target of a campaign of discrimination and harassment on the basis of our relationship and harassment using false complaints by our neighbors as well as local city officials in Cortland, NY. Unfortunately, this has come at a time where I've also been subjected to wrongful termination and discrimination, leaving us without the funding necessary to obtain justice.
On June 26th, 2024, a mayor, police lieutenant, and a city attorney rode together in an unmarked car to intimidate and bully me while I was home alone to "get a resolve" on issues that I had requested we communicate via email or wait until I was able to obtain legal counsel. After saying multiple times that I did not feel comfortable with the conversation, the mayor said "we'd have to escalate to the next level."
Two weeks later, Andrew was wrongfully arrested and served with temporary stay away orders requested under false pretenses by 3 neighbors living adjacent to our home. We need your help to fight this injustice and hold those who have abused their positions of power under the color of law accountable.
Despite the numerous reports we have made to the local city police about our neighbors' harassment of us with false complaints to code enforcement and the police, city officials including the mayor, a police lieutenant, a city attorney, a deputy chief fire marshal and youth bureau director are infringing upon our right to equal protection under the law, depriving us of our right to enjoy our own home, and limiting our ability to move forward in our lives to seek new job opportunities inclusive of starting our own business.
Your generous support will help us retain a dedicated attorney to defend Andrew and allow us to hold those responsible accountable.
By contributing to our crowdfunding campaign, you will be:
- Helping to fund a payment towards a retainer for an attorney that will help to create a legal strategy to address the Abuses of Power.
- Ensuring we have legal counsel available to help us navigate this very new space for us both.
- Helping to pay for any reports/body cam footage obtained through the Freedom of Information Act while we continue our own investigations prior to obtaining legal representation.
- Standing up to bullies who think they can push people out of their homes.
- Ensuring that justice can be had, no matter a person's income status.
- Sending a message to elected and public officials that they cannot abuse their power to deprive others of their rights.
Join us in this crucial fight as I'll be sharing updates as we wind our way through the legal process!
Donate today as we begin this journey in Andrew's first court appearance today July 24th, 2024 and be a part of making justice prevail and upholding accountability by those in elected positions and in public service.
Thank you all for your support in advance!
Andrew & Danielle
