Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts for Rural NC
My name is Brooklyn, and I'm reaching out for support in my ongoing efforts to aid those affected by Hurricane Helene in rural North Carolina. The devastation is widespread, and many communities are still without power and essential supplies.
Mission:
Daily I' strive to deliver crucial items like generators, gas, chainsaws, and other necessities to hard-hit areas in rural NC. My small but effective operation involves:
- Loading up my Toyota Tacoma in SC with Ryobi generators, full gas cans, chainsaws, water, and other essentials.
- Driving to pre-scouted locations in need.
- Distributing donations directly to those affected.
- Gathering lists of additional needs for future deliveries.
- Scouting new locations for the next day's run.
Current Needs
Recent requests include Any/all indoor heating sources, batteries, paper and plastic plates, camp stoves, propane, cereal, bars, and flashlights. I'm working closely with the West Yancey Fire Department, who have been instrumental in these relief efforts.
Long-Term Impact
Some areas around Burnsville may be without power for 4-8 months. With average nightly temperatures projected to be around 31°F (0.5°C) in December, the need for generators and heating supplies is critical.
How You Can Help
Your donations will directly fund fuel and heat sources/supplies for these urgent deliveries. I'm committed to providing weekly updates on how the funds are being used.
Future Plans
While Hurricane Milton approaches Florida, I am shifting some proactive resources there, yet North Carolina's needs remain significant. Any remaining funds will support ongoing disaster relief efforts in both states throughout this storm season.
