The Hugh Cooney Fundraiser

My dearest dad was diagnosed with stage IV colon and liver cancer in May 2013. He battled this disease for over two years and while his opponent was fierce, his strength and determination did not once relinquesh. He always had a 'can do' attitude.
Dad made it his own personal goal to see this journey as an opportunity to help others. In his case, he was diagnosed too late to be able to beat this disease so he was very determined to spread the word on the importance of early detection and prevention, specifically in listening to your own body to facilitate early diagnosis.
Furthermore, while being treated by the great staff on the oncology day ward at St Vincent's Private hospital (Dublin, Ireland), dad observed from the start of his treatment both the lack of and need for a psychologist on the ward, available to both patients and their families as they face what can be a difficult and challenging journey during cancer diagnosis and treatment.
We are so proud to say that we raised the funds for our initial goal which was 100,000 euro and a full-time psychologist is already helping patients in need. The funding is still necessary to ensure we continue to support this valuable service.
From Canada, Derek and I thought it imperative to set up our own event and with the help of some brave guys...we are doing our own 'waxathon'. Our collective goal is $5000 but we are more than open to surpassing that :)
I want to personally thank Jonny, Ari, Andrew (Pilla), Jason (Jay), Matthew (Pontes), Rob and Mike for their brave hair donation. The actual event is scheduled for August 21st, 2016 which means the wait is over - there will be many videos to share. Your generous donation will be worth it!
