Help Care for Farm Animals at Hummingbird Hollow

Hummingbird Hollow Outdoors Farm Sanctuary is a small non-profit Sanctuary on the outskirts of St. Louis. We are raising money to continue our important mission of adopting and caring for neglected, abused and abandoned farm animals. We are also here to adopt and provide, without judgment, forever homes to farm animals that are greatly loved but their owners, for whatever reason, can no longer keep them.

Hummingbird Hollow Outdoors opened its gates to farm animals in need in February of 2020. Yes, right before the world encountered Covid 19. We initially adopted 2 very senior horses, to add to the horses we've had as long time pets. Then we heard about five bonded donkeys in Louisiana, four of which were pregnant females. They were going to slaughter for their fur, which is very much in demand in China. We were able to raise $2,500 for their rescue and to transport them back here. Since then we have adopted nine more horses in need of forever homes (three of them are blind), two more donkeys, goats, sheep, geese, ducks, turkeys, chickens, and many, many pot bellied pigs, including several pregnant girls. We quickly learned that pigs are the farm animals most in need. Since Covid, fundraising for animal rescues and sanctuaries has become very difficult. Everyone is struggling. We struggle to raise even enough for transportation and the initial vet care of the animals we adopt. We were forced to get loans and credit cards for this reason. Every time we welcome a new animal we promise them we will give them a loving forever home, and at this time we really need your help to keep that promise. We are so blessed to have 27 beautiful acres to house the animals, with all the shelters and fencing built by us with mostly donated materials. Some of it isn't pretty, but it works!

We decided to do our best to be self sustaining for ourselves and the animals by bringing in money with camping and glamping sites. We also welcome day visitors and just ask for a donation if it's possible. We open our gates to people so that they can interact with the animals and enjoy the outdoors and nature. We provide sanctuary for all creatures on earth, including humans. We are always looking for additional ways to create income to care for the animals.

The last thing we want to do is beg for money. We live very frugally, our lives are dedicated to the animals. We don't have any fancy equipment, and we're ok with that, although a multi purpose tractor would be a huge asset and could be put to so much use. The money we are fundraising for at this time is to:

1.) Help us pay for our basic feed cost of $100 a day.

2.) Build additional shelters and enclosures and add some fencing. We have completely outgrown our original barn. We currently use the area under our deck as a donkey shelter! We need a large open shelter for the horses, and we'll use the current barn for goats and pigs.

Our electric fencing has held up very well but we really need permanent fences, and we have probably 10 acres we can expand with cattle panels so that the pigs have so much more open room to roam and root!

3.) Continue to pay off the credit cards and loans we needed to pay for veterinary care, medicine and supplies, and occasionally even feed, due to the increased cost of everything, and lack of donations since Covid.

4.) All eleven horses are in need of hoof trims! It's about $40 per horse.

5.) Build our accounts so that we are ready for winter, and emergency vet care.

So at this time our goal is to raise $50,000. Our ultimate goal is to be self sustaining with our camping and glamping sites, visitor donations, Patreon and individual animal sponsoring.
