Hurricane Maria - Narvaez Family
My parents (Candy and Julio) live in Palmarito-Corozal, Puerto Rico. Their home has been damaged by Hurricane Maria. There is no power, water or cell towers throughout the entire island. The roads and bridges are down and my family is essentially trapped in a mountainous area where it will be difficult for them to get assistance or refill prescriptions for medication they need to survive.
My parents have health issues and have been using an old generator, that runs on gasoline, to keep my dad's breathing machine running. My dad has chronic respiratory failure and uses the machine for his COPD and Sleep Apnea. Without it he can die in his sleep.
The price of gas has increased since the hurricane and my parents have to travel on a treacherous road which puts them at risk of mudslides just to get gas to keep the generator going. It is my understanding that it will take up to a year to restore electricity throughout the island.
My family has a short supply of medication, food, water, gas and could greatly use any assistance you can provide.
Sincerely,
Monica, Jc, and Nydia
