Ian & Katie build a home/ business
Donation protected
Hello friends, family, and those karmically connected!
Ian Pape and I have decided that instead of creating a gift registry for our wedding that we would instead ask you all to support us in the most important way possible: help us buy a home!
The story from the beginning:
Ian and I moved to North Carolina in 2011 to learn how to live sustainably off the land and grow our own food. We started at the Piedmont Biofarm in which we learned how to organically farm with a passion. On leaving our internship at this farm, a karmic connection was formed with a stranger. This karmically connected stranger asked if we would want to join her on her wildlife sanctuary of a farm and be caretakers as well as vegetable growers. This epically beautiful piece of land was missing only one thing and that was: a community to share the magic of such a sacred place.
We have since left this farm so that I could get my masters in art therapy in Louisville Kentucky. On graduating, Ian and I attended a permaculture design course and received our design certification to carry on the knowledge of permenant agriculture and permenant culture.
***The Spark!**
Ian and I thought: why not combine my mindfulness-based art therapy, Ian's building, kung fu/tai chi and farming knowledge, and permaculture design to build a healing arts retreat center for stress and burnout in the woods of North Carolina, where our very own healing all started!
**The Home!**
We have received a loan for 10.5 acres tucked away in the woods behind our now friend and confidant's farm. We would like to build a 800 square foot green home using strawbale and Cobb techniques. After our home is built, we will then start on the retreat cabins for our guests. Your generous donation will go towards buying supplies and appliances for our project. An itemized list and the adjoining cost will be below so you will know exactly where your money will be going. I will update regularly to let you know how your support is helping us as we get closer to our goal.
We would be eternally grateful and thankful for your gift. Whether large or small, nothing will be taken for granted and every dollar donated will get us, and the future people we could heal, closer to the community that will ignite a change in so many lives.
