My father, Edward Gail Eldridge served in the Marines for 6 years and was a soldier for 20. He flew helicopters in Vietnam where he did two tours. He retired with honors as a CW-4 and kept serving his country within other organizations until he started our family. He then went to work for Flight Safety International, where he worked for the next 20 or so years.

Being his one and only son I was inspired by his service to follow in his footsteps and joined the Marine Corps in 2013. During my last deployment in 2017 he was diagnosed with kidney cancer which we later discovered was directly correlated to the chemical "Agent Orange" which he was exposed to while in Vietnam.

This great man, father, and husband, passed away at 06:00 on April 6th. Although he supported his family to the best of his ability, to the extent that we always had what we needed to survive and succeed, we are currently struggling financially. He was and has always been the head of our house hold. I currently live in San Diego, CA on my own.

Presently, I am a full time student making minimum wage. My mother quit her job in February to be able to care for my dad 24/7 in his last few months. With this being said, we are very limited with funds.  Our families current debt include; My mother’s car (the only car she has), Our home, and my father's funeral services.

My father was everything to me. I looked up to him for everything, he taught me how to be a man, he taught me how to treat people with manors and respect, and most importantly he taught me to always be honest with myself and others. He was and still is my hero. He had a personality that could brighten anyone's mood on the darkest of days and kept us smiling until the last second he spent with us. He was always firm and fair, but also kind and generous. I couldn't have asked for a better father and I hope to be nearly as great as he was one day.

The funeral services begin this weekend (April 12-15 2019). My mother will be in charge of all funds raised through this page and all the money raised will go to the funeral services first and then to help consolidate bills after. Please join me in honoring this American Hero's memory with your kindhearted donations. Any amount small or large will be considerably appreciated!
