In Memory of Elizabeth Cowles
Donation protected
On Christmas Day, Carrie Underwood Super Fan, Cameron Cowles, lost his Mother and best friend. She was just 40 years old.
I first met “Liz” when she called The BIG 98 request line in July of 2018. Even before getting to the purpose of her call, she asked how I was doing. So, I told her.
It was an emotional weekend. My daughter had just learned to ride a bike without training wheels. I explained that it felt like I was watching her childhood fading away as she pedaled into the sunset. She listened patiently and bonded with me by sharing stories of her own. We were both a mess. I couldn’t be more grateful for her time and empathy. As a token of appreciation, I asked if she’d like tickets to see Carrie Underwood play The Opry. I had no idea that her son Cameron, born with cerebral palsy, was a Super Fan! She was over the moon! And, based Cameron’s expression in a video she posted on Twitter, he was too. “Meant to be.”
We all went to the Opry together that night and even made it backstage to meet Carrie Underwood. Liz and Cameron we’re beaming with joy and gratitude. Elizabeth’s spirit and love of the Lord was infectious. I’m pretty sure Carrie felt it too. She was tearing up as they left her dressing room to take their seats.
Elizabeth and Cameron Cowles were so much more than “Mother and Son.” They were best friends. To think of one without the other feels wrong and unnatural. However, this is a new reality.
On Christmas Day, at 40 years old, Elizabeth Cowles was called home by the Lord. She was a generous lady with a heart for helping others. And even in spirit, she continues to do so.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all donations be gifted to the youth group at Franklin Community Church where she was the youth minister. Consider making a donation in her memory here.
