In Memory of 2 Kind Boston University Custodians
In January 2021, our Boston
University community lost 2 dedicated
and kind custodians to Covid who worked at Boston University for a combined total of almost 6 decades.
Jose Ferreira, originally from Portugal,
and Juber Lopez, originally from El
Salvador, kept the university shining and
a safe clean environment for all students
especially during this tragic pandemic.
They loved their careers and the many
students they came to know who were
studying and living on campus. Everyone
described both men as kind, hard workers and always available to help with a smile. Neither gentleman liked to take
time off, with Jose even working
through tough lung cancer. He did not
stop working until he tested positive for
COVID. Two weeks later he was gone.
Their families who live in Boston, miss
them most of all especially their wives,
children and grandchildren who loved
spending time with their grandfathers.
The youngest ones still have trouble
understanding they are gone forever.
After speaking with both families, we are raising funds for two engraved memorial
benches which the families would like to
have placed at the “ BU Beach “ for
everyone to enjoy and remember them,
just like both gentlemen savored time in
nature,and the outside sunshine.
Whatever is collected above and beyond what is needed for the benches, will be
shared with their two large
families in memory of these two
extraordinary gentlemen. They remain
forever in our hearts.
May their memories be a blessing.
