UPDATE 8/21:

As many of you know, for the year, Virginia had been battling a terminal illness. The evening of Thursday, August 15th, she passed peacefully with her family by her side. This will now become a Memorial Fund to continue to help her family with the financial burden they carry in the midst of grief.

Her sister will be receiving all of the funds directly.

Hi,

My name is Sandra and I am fundraising for our special, wonderful, caring and selfless friend and colleague, Virginia Gamboa. Virginia (Viky) was diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) which is a combination of disorders - primarily lupus, scleroderma, and polymyositis, which has attacked her organs aggressively, in addition to pulmonary hypertension.

Unfortunately, a few weeks ago during her last hospitalization, the doctors came to the realization that there was no other form of treatment or medication they could provide to help her organs, as they have completely failed.

Virginia is currently in hospice at home. She is so grateful for all the support everybody has selflessly provided. Her family is currently navigating grief, emotions, and hospice care. Unfortunately, the financial aspect is a very heavy weight they have to carry as insurance only offers so much help, 401K takes a long time to process, life insurance is not provided until after end of life and disability has timetables that haven't aligned or offered enough to help with the endless amount of bills.

Why I'm fundraising

There are so many words I can use to describe Viky, from the most loving, caring, beautiful, and giving person but i think selfless is one of the words that stands out to me. She is the person that you know will always be there no matter what you need. This time, she needs us.

Viky has been fighting this life-threatening disease and has been a warrior, fighting day in and day out but unfortunately the disease has taken over and we are now trying to manage both grief, emotions and financial responsibilities from her last two hospital stays and current in-home hospice care, plus the financial responsibilities of daily life. It has all added up to an unthinkable amount that is not manageable for her family and friends without help.

I appreciate all of you and anything you can contribute to Viky, understanding you may not be able to, but sharing this is just as helpful.

All funds will go directly to her and her family.
