Chef Pyet has always dedicated her culinary journey to her Indigenous culture and roots as a Native Mexican-American woman. As a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Tribe, Chef has always prioritized using her platform to spotlight the community she was built on, never losing sight of what her mission is. As highlighted in her winning post on her Instagram page - “This is more than a cooking competition; this is representing the voices of all that have been silenced. We conquered the table.”
That representation is exactly what UNITY captures as a national network organization promoting personal development, citizenship, and leadership among Native American youth. Established in 1976, UNITY has been empowering and serving American Indian and Alaska Native youth for more than 40 years with the mission to foster the spiritual, mental, physical, and social development of the youth it serves. UNITY aspires to build a strong, unified, and self-reliant Native America through greater youth involvement.
