John Crilly. A True Hero supported by @JENGbA
Donation protected
John Crilly was hailed a National hero because of his quick reactions against the London Bridge terror attacker on Friday 29th November 2019. He fought off the attacker with a fire extinguisher, believing the knifeman was wearing a suicide vest. Two of John's friends died that day and without John's intervention alongside two others, who knows how many more innocent lives would have been lost.
John was convicted under "joint enterprise" for a crime committed by someone else, he is the only person to have had his conviction quashed after the Supreme Court acknowledged the law had taken a ‘wrong turn’ as far back as 1984.
Having spent 14 years in prison John now has a part time job, but is struggling to support himself financially. He graduated with a law degree last October and wants to carry on the work done by Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones, who tragically lost their lives that day, he wants to support others in a way that John himself has been supported.
This funding page has been set up by the campaigners who supported John whilst he was in prison and since his acquittal. JENGbA (Joint Enterprise Not Guilty by Association) is a grassroots campaign, supporting over 1000 prisoners who, like John, were convicted under the discredited "Joint Enterprise" doctrine.
Gloria Morrison and Jan Cunliffe are the co founders of the campaign who want to raise money for John so that he can start to rebuild his life. All donations, however great or small, will go directly towards giving John an independent life where he can devote more of his time helping others.
We know he is keen to start taking driving lessons, so we will keep you updated on that one. Jan has already given John over £500 of the funds raised so far and this has been a massive help to him over the Christmas holidays.
Once the funds hit the designated bank account he will be able to use the debit card provided and spend the money on the things he needs. This account doesn’t have the same limited functions that his own bank account has so he’ll have greater freedom on how he spends the money.
If you can help us to help John do that and thank John for his bravery, it will be hugely appreciated.
Organisers: Gloria Morrison and Janet Cunliffe.
John Crilly will benefit from all donations.
